History of the brand LESS & TIMBER
- In autumn 2003 LESS & TIMBER s.r.o. was founded as a part of the forestry-wood processing holding LESS, specialising in processing large diameter coniferous logs.
- The largest investments of the LESS holding started in 2007 with the construction of the wood processing complex in Čáslav. The plant is built on the historical site of the local sawmill founded 125 years earlier. It is the best equipped wood processing plant for large diameter logwood in the Czech Republic and one of the best equipped in the whole of Europe.
- Part of the investment went into one of the most modern cogeneration units for combustion of wood biomass in Europe, which is operated by the company´s subsidiary LESS & ENERGY s.r.o.
- The construction of the Čáslav plant was successfully completed by the launching of production on 12th June 2009.
- In autumn 2009, the LESS holding negotiated the takeover of the German company Holzwerk Hemau GmbH (HWH) and thus became the largest manufacturer of glued semi-finished products for wooden windows in Europe.
- During the years 2010 and 2011 the Čáslav sawmill was gradually working its way towards a full four-shift operation. In all operations combined, LESS & TIMBER processed as much as 440 thousand m3 of logwood yearly and reached annual sales of 1.5 billion Czech Crowns. At the time, LESS & TIMBER s.r.o. operated two other sawmills besides Čáslav, Dlouhá Ves (near Sušice) and Bohdaneč. The manufacture of glued products took place in both the Klášterec nad Orlicí and Holzwerk Hemau factories, reaching a production capacity of 40.000 m3 of scantling per year.
- Production in Holzwerk Hemau was downsized in 2013 and all stages of the scantling production was moved back to the Klášterec nad Orlicí.
- For reasons related mostly to LESS Holding the company LESS & TIMBER s.r.o. fell into financial problems in 2012 and the process of searching for a new investor started. This process was successfully completed in 2014.
- As of 1st January 2015, as part of the ongoing economic restructuring of the company, the plants of the company LESS & TIMBER s.r.o. have come under control of the newly created LESS & TIMBER, a.s. as part of Jet Investment, a Czech investment group. The group, therefore, has become a direct successor in the manufacture of top quality wood products under the brand LESS & TIMBER.
